My heart sings when after a family session I hear from one of the parents (or both of them):

your sessions are so much fun. we should do it more often. even our son, who doesn’t like to be photographed said, the session was cool.

That is the best prize ever. As much as I always try to plan my session ahead, like some basic poses, basic encouragements for the family to relax and act naturally, at the end I almost never use them. I think it’s good to be prepared, but it also good to be able to go with the flow… and this is what I do most of the time.

This past Mother’s Day campaign was a great example of what I’m talking about. All of the sessions happened at the same location, but man, we were able to capture so many unique to the particular family interactions.

This session is very dear to my heart, as this family has been here for me and my family since we moved to San Jose. And one of the gorgeous girls is my assistant.
